About Coming Home to The Table
Cooking has become a lost art that we would like to revive. Too many people have abandoned the kitchen and replaced it with fast industrialized food. The Table has always been the heart of the home where we nourish our bodies, share our lives, and develop bonds with our family and friends. We hope our blog will help inspire you to change our current food culture and come home to real food. Food that does not require a chemistry degree to understand.
We have always enjoyed cooking for ourselves, family, and friends. Too often people ask, “You can make this?” We wanted to share our enthusiasm for cooking and making homemade food with others. Real, quality food will open you up to tastes and experiences that cannot compare to premade Franken-foods. We support our local farmers market and ranchers, we grow as much of our own food as we can, and we try to eat in season. Those deep seeded memories of sun ripened tomatoes plucked straight from the vine, backyard apricots picked from the tree and popped right in your mouth, taught us patience and desire for flavorful real food at it’s peak of freshness.
We live in the desert Southwest where water is a limited resource and sun is plentiful. We have a long growing season that gets interrupted by an extremely hot summer. With the use of shade trees, mulch, and modifying when and where we plant, we are learning how to produce a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. Our yard is a constant experiment that sometimes works beautifully and other times is a flop. We’ll keep you posted.
